The global financial crisis began in 2007, although its origins lay in risk management and investment decisions made in earlier years.

As optimism grows that the end may be in sight, thoughts naturally turn to the future.  What have we learned from the recent events about risk management – are we doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past?   And what new investment opportunities may arise from the resulting dislocated markets – and can we manage the accompanying new risks.

So our theme for 2010 is “Investing for success - balancing risk and reward”.  We are delighted to have secured a high quality panel of external speakers from the financial press, academia, banking and asset management, including authors of some of the definitive books on the crisis.

The Risk and investment conference is well known as a source of the latest cutting edge actuarial research and 2010 will be no exception, with the addition of speakers from leading universities.

But, at your request, we have also included more sessions from practioners on how these techniques are actually being applied in actuaries’ daily roles.  You will have plenty of opportunities to socialise with your peers in the Risk and investment area.

We look forward to welcoming you to Edinburgh in June 2010.
